Probate
Probate
In Georgia, when a loved one dies and leaves behind property in their name or some unresolved legal or business issue you may be required to petition the Probate Court to become appointed as the legal representative of their estate. If they had created a valid will while living, then the named Executor would manage their estate. If they died without a will, then the Court will appoint an administrator of their estate.
Serving as executor or administrator requires gathering and protecting estate assets, paying valid debts, and distributing the deceased person’s property according to their Will or the laws of the State of Georgia.
