The Federal Government has classified Coronavirus Stimulus Checks as tax refunds for purposes of Medicaid and other public benefits, so the receipt of the stimulus check will not affect a Medicaid recipient’s income eligibility.
However, any funds that remain in the Medicaid recipient’s account at the beginning of the next month are countable assets for Medicaid eligibility purposes. All Medicaid recipients will have to spend enough of their Stimulus check to bring their countable assets back below $2,000 by month end to maintain eligibility.

Some options for spending the checks:
1. Purchase clothes and toiletries
2. Contribute to burial designation up to $10,000
3. Purchase tablet or Amazon Echo Show, headphones and music
4. Purchase dentures
5. Purchase hearing aids
6. Pay off outstanding debt
